Hawaii's Islands - All You Need to Know

There are 19 islands in the Hawaii Archipelago, but only 6 of the main 8 islands are open to tourism. These are Hawaii, Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai.

Hawaii's Islands - Hawai'i (The Big Island)

Called 'The Big Island' to differentiate from the name of the State, Hawaii Island is the biggest of the islands, comprising of over 50% of the total area. It is a volcanic island with Mauna Loa being the biggest and most active Volcano on Earth which is located near Mauna Kea which is the world's largest mountain (taller than Mount Everest if you include the part that is underwater). These volcanoes are found within the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, were you will also find the Kilauea Visitor Center and a number of hiking trails.

The main city on this island is Hilo which is the 2nd largest city of Hawaii State after Honolulu. This city is a perfect base for exploring the eastern side of the island but before heading out you might save some time to visit such attractions as the Pacific Tsunami Museum, the Lili'uokalani Gardens, or any of the other museums. In addition to visiting the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; you could visit Akaka Falls State Park and the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo.

Hawaii's Islands - O'ahu (The Gathering Place)

Oahu is the 3rd largest island and it is where you will find the state capital Honolulu. It is also home 85% of the state population, and forms the only really metropolitan area on these islands. This is the most likely place you will be flying into as Honolulu International Airport is the main airport for the state.

One important historical area to visit would be Pearl Harbour, site of the surprise attack that brought the USA into WWII in December 1941. The main attraction here is the USS Arizona National Memorial. Other attractions of Oahu include the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Bishop Museum, and perhaps visit one of the 30 and 40 great tourist beaches.

Hawaii's Islands - Maui (The Valley Isle)

The 2nd largest island, and has regularly been voted the best of the islands over the last few years. There are a number of great places to visit on this island including the Haleakala National Park, one must-do activity is getting up early and watching a sunrise over Haleakala volcano; the Road to Hana, is one of the most beautiful drives, through lush rainforest, in the world; and a number of other parks.

Hawaii's Islands - Kaua'i (The Garden Isle)

This is the oldest of the islands and it is covered in lush flora and tropical species of plants. Some of the main attractions of the island include the Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast, which have been formed by erosion. Other attractions include the Lydgate State Park and the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge. This is definitely the most relaxing of the islands so this is where you will come if you want to get away from it all.

Hawaii's Islands - Moloka'i (The Friendly Isle)

The least developed island and formerly a site for a Leper Colony. You can visit the Kalaupapa National Historical Park which details the history of the Leper Colony.

Hawaii's Islands - Lana'i (The Pineapple Isle)

The smallest of these islands and formerly a privately owned island which was used for the worlds largest pineapple plantation. Today the island is home to a number of exclusive resorts, mainly the Manele Bay and the Lodge at Koele

Getting around any given island is most easily done by renting a car, however these can be in high demand so it is best to book your car as early as possible. Luckily there is a ferry connecting Oahu and Maui; with a planned route to Kauai in the future so you only need to hire one car during your trip.

A Hawaii Beach Wedding Makes for a Picture Perfect Celebration

A lot of couples dream of having a Hawaii beach wedding. And why not? The golden coasts, lush vegetation, and a populace known for its warmth and sense of jubilation all make for a vivid and stimulating destination wedding.

But like every great beach wedding idea, a Hawaii destination wedding needs careful thought and planning. Probably the best way to research your Hawaii beach wedding would be to use the internet. The beach theme wedding is so popular there are many websites devoted to Hawaiian ceremonies. You can also find info on a Caribbean beach wedding, Florida beach wedding, and other places that can offer you similarly stimulating venues for your ceremony.

The keyword here is planning. The more you know what you want and the better you can visualize it, the more successful and memorable your big day will be.

The following steps will help you envision, plan, and organize a breathtaking Hawaii beach wedding.

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #1 - Create Your Invitations

Create invitations that reflect the theme of your ceremony. Traditional card invitations that come in light sandy colors are great; alternatively, how about non-traditional invites like small bottles with sand and a rolled sheet of paper inside (with your ceremony details printed on it)?

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #2 - Book Your Destination Wedding

Be sure to settle your venue quick; remember, you're not the only couple that wants to get married in Hawaii! Check places through travel agencies or online. Research the location, amenities, view, and other details of your Hawaii destination wedding. Also book your minister around this time as well as the all-important reception area.

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #3 - Make Travel Arrangements

If you're not from Hawaii, book all plane tickets, island rides, and hotel accommodations well in advance so you don't have to worry about them later. Make sure your hotel is near the venue. The success of a destination wedding hinges on this crucial plan element.

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #4 - Apply for a Marriage License

The application fee for a Hawaiian marriage license is $50. You have 30 days from the issuance of the
license to get married in Hawaii. If it expires, your destination wedding will have to wait. It's easy enough to reapply but you'll have to spend $50 again!

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #5 - Choose Your Attire Well

The traditional garb is as follows: a white holoku (Hawaiian bridal dress) for the bride and a white shirt and pants with a colored sash for the groom. If it's going to be a full outdoor wedding, your attire shouldn't be too stifling. Arrange maile leis--woven garlands made out of fragrant green leaves - for the two of you to wear. As for a veil--most Hawaiian ceremonies do not require brides to wear veils. She might want to wear a special wreath of flowers on her head instead.

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #6 - Decide On Ceremony Elements

After the ceremony, some couples follow the Chinese practice of lighting fireworks to scare off evil spirits and bestow good luck on the newlyweds; others engage in a Pandango, a Filipino tradition where guests use pins to attach money to the couple as they dance. You can do something similar or you can simply put on a new twist on old practices. For example, instead of a unity candle ceremony, you can try the unity SAND ceremony where the bride and groom mix two different shades of sand into a large glass, signifying their union in a fun and unique way.

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #7 - Pick the Right Decorations

Select decor that go hand in hand with your overall theme and beach wedding elements. There's no need to go overboard with set pieces; minimalism is good as the venue itself is already quite a joy to the senses. But don't be too barren; just make sure to liven the place up with décor that befits your beach wedding ceremony and theme.

Hawaii Beach Wedding Tip #8 - Book Catering

Be sure your menu properly caters to your palette and those of your guests. If you know of any vegetarian guests, be sure to arrange some vegetarian dishes. Also, choose a menu that best reflects your ocean theme wedding--seafood is always great and heightens the ocean-side mood.

If you plan your destination wedding well and arrange many of these things in advance, your union will definitely be spectacular and memorable.

In fact, there are some individuals who say that they can feel the romance in the air as soon as they step off their plane! If you are looking for a honeymoon destination that is known to create romance, all by itself, Hawaii is that place.

In addition to Hawaii’s beauty, another reason why you should at least think about having a Hawaii honeymoon is because of all your options. There is no shortage of these places in Hawaii. A large number of vacation resorts and hotels have what is often referred to as a honeymoon suite. These rooms are created with honeymooners in mind. If you would like to avoid large hotel crowds, you may want to examine Hawaii vacation rentals. Hawaii vacation rentals are where you are able to rent a whole house for your honeymoon. Depending on the Hawaii vacation rental that you choose, you may be located right along side the coast; talk about romance!

The activities available in Hawaii are another one of the many reasons why you may want to think about scheduling a Hawaii honeymoon. There are many Hawaiian activities that are designed with honeymooners in mind. For instance, did you know that you can take a small boat cruise? Did you know that helicopter tours are available? These two activities are ones that are generally the most preferred by honeymooners because they help to create romance. In addition to boat tours and Hawaii helicopter tours, you can also enjoy scuba diving, horse back riding, or hiking.

The above mentioned reasons are just a few of the many reasons why a Hawaii honeymoon may be perfect for you and your partner. In fact, if you haven’t started planning your wedding yet, you may even want to think about incorporating that into your travel plans. What a perfect combination; a Hawaii wedding and a Hawaii honeymoon.

Hawaii Real Estate - Paying for Paradise

Where does one even begin to start when discussing the island paradise of Hawaii. Perhaps with an inflated Hawaii real estate market for those considering relocating.

Hawaii

Formed by volcanoes, Hawaii is a collection of islands that feel like paradise. In fact, the islands continue to grow with active volcanoes consistently producing new lava flows and adding to the land mass. Loihi is going to be the newest island, but is still underwater at this point. If you have a long-term view, however, you can start saving money for a deposit now!

Each island of Hawaii has unique features to satisfy the desires of anyone locating. You can get rain forest, soaring mountains, prairie like areas and, of course, beaches, beaches and more beaches. If you love the ocean, there is no better place to live than Hawaii.

Maui

Perhaps the most popular of the islands, Maui is a hot spot for travelers seeking fun in the sun. Ripe with beaches and golf courses, one can’t help just looking around and admiring the view from practically anywhere on the island. Lahaina is the main resort area in the north and Wailea is a surf mecca on the south end of the island.

Honolulu

Located on Oahu, Honolulu is the biggest city in Hawaii with a population of roughly 400,000 residents. With the major airport in Hawaii and beaches of Waikiki, Honolulu is the first designation of most travelers. The city is situated up against mountains and is about the only place you’ll find skyscrapers and traffic jams of freeways. With only 400,000 people, the city is not over populated. Still, it is a city and probably the least attractive location on the islands. In Hawaii, that is a very relative statement.

Hawaii Real Estate

Hawaii is a paradise and Hawaii real estate prices reflect it. Surprisingly, the prices are actually a little less than California. A single family home in Honolulu is going to set you back roughly $730,000, while the same home in Maui will average $20,000 more. On a positive note, real estate in Hawaii has appreciated at a rate of approximately 26 percent in 2005.

Hawaii is truly paradise on earth. Unfortunately, the real estate prices reflect it.

Travel to Hawaii For Your Hawaiian Vacation & Stay on the Big Island of Hawaii

Aloha. Many people think of Hawaii as paradise. That is a good reason as any to travel to Hawaii for your Hawaiian vacations. There is diversity in geography on the big island of Hawaii. I will take an expedition with you, and we will explore everything from Volcanoes National Park to Puako on the big island of Hawaii in this commentary.

The characteristics of the land ranges from volcanoes to beaches on the big island of Hawaii. There is a large variety of scenery ranging from bustling urban development to many miles of undeveloped territory. It will be well worth your time to travel to Hawaii for and take luxurious Hawaiian vacations.

There are large cities on big island of Hawaii like Kailua-Kona and Hilo. The city of Hilo is located on the windy side of the big island of Hawaii. It gets a high amount of annual rainfall, which contributes to a lush green landscape. Hilo is an interesting sight and it is a must see for your list of destinations.

Many tourists begin their journey on the big island of Hawaii in Kona. Make a commitment to spend a few days to enjoy nearby beaches and to relax. You may want to visit Kealakekua Bay to go snorkeling.

Volcanoes National Park

Put the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on your schedule of places to visit, which is a must-see for visitors to Hawaii. The Volcanoes National Park of Hawaii is simply amazing, to put it mildly. And Hawaii allows you the freedom to actually campout in the park.

If you have plenty of time you should really explore the Volcanoes National Park. It has spectacular hiking trails that extend in excess of 140 miles. You should at least take a drive through the Volcanoes National Park, even if you are pressed for time.

Make it a goal to travel down the stretch of Highway 137, which is dubbed Red Road because it is worth visiting. You will be treated to a canopy of Hala trees and Milo that are intertwined and are fashioned so that it resembles a tunnel.

Hilo is a city in which you should plan to spend time. Hilo has lush landscaping that makes for wonderful scenery. It is picturesque, so make certain to take advantage of the photography opportunity.

Hilo is noted to be the rainiest city in the United States, so there are not very many beaches worth visiting there. However, Hilo is an adorable little town, which offers historical and cultural experiences. You will be able to relax and enjoy the Bed and Breakfast home-style inns.

Puako is a small, quiet town that is located along the Southern Kohalo Coast. It is home to magnificent tide pools. Puako is accessible using highway 19, which is near Hapuna Beach State Park. There are giant tide pools, which are the habitat of unique marine life. The coral there makes it a destination that you have to experience. But don't make plans to stay in Puako because it is such an undersized town and lodging is difficult to find. Puako is really not a highly visited tourist location.

Put horseback riding on your list of activities and visit the Dahana Ranch Roughriders during your Hawaiian vacation on the big island. Be sure to stopover at the huge Dahana Ranch Roughriders ranch, which is located in Waimea.

A native Hawaiian family operates and owns the Dahana Ranch Roughriders. It is an actual working cattle ranch. The Dahana Ranch Roughriders ranch raises, breeds, and trains horses and cattle.

Big Island of Hawaii

Put the big island of Hawaii on your list of places to visit if your passion is bicycling. You will find excellent cycling prospects in Waimea on the big island of Hawaii. The topography is ideal for the cyclist because it is chock-full of rolling hills.

Do not leave on the big island of Hawaii before you stop by Pololu Valley, which offers great hiking trails. You may decide to take a mule ride through Pololu Valley.

Finally, you will want to take time and relax on the shores, which feature white sandy beaches. Be sure to seize the opportunity to go snorkeling or sea diving at Kauna'oa Bay.

Travel to Hawaii because there are tons of things to do for your Hawaiian vacations. Your visit to the big island of Hawaii is sure to amaze and delight you. Aloha.
