Hawaii: Where Romance Meets Recreation

The lush and accommodating volcanic formed Hawaiian Islands offer an enchanting Pacific, Polynesian paradise for travelers worldwide. The main islands of Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii and Maui, steeped in history and tradition, are temperate and comfortable year-round, as would be expected from their tropical or sub-tropical locale. Travelers arrive by air and ship to celebrate the fascinating Hawaiian heritage.

The island natives have a rich culture based on an ancient Polynesian belief system. The islands are rich with legends, mythology, gods and goddesses. Long ago, island natives planned fishing, planting, harvesting and farming on moon patterns, using the Hawaiian moon calendar. Another traditional practice is the Kumulipo, or song of creation, an ancient chant recited by kahunas, or priests, at important festivals or events to explain the origin of the Hawaiian people.

While traveling, visitors can enjoy authentic Hula and Fire dancing, Tiki parties and luaus, an island tradition gathering large groups of friends and neighbors for a night of dancing, feasting and extravagant entertainment. To ensure luau accommodations, book space well in advance of your arrival on the islands as the most popular events sell out quickly.

Hawaii offers some of the most sought-after surfing conditions in the world. Whether you prefer to watch, learn or participate in the action, the islands’ warm, turquoise waters and massive summertime swells are sure to make a big splash.

Offshore, whale and dolphin watching bring tourists side-by-side with the natural, breathtaking underwater world. Humpback whales seasonally migrate December through April, while the nearby Pacific depths are home to many other spectacular breeds year-round. Hawaii also hosts various dolphin breeds, the bottleneck being the most popular. The Hilton Waikoloa Village’s Dolphin Quest lets visitors swim alongside many well-trained, aquatic mammals. As with all events, advance booking ensures space.

Local cuisine blends the rich tastes of the Pacific Rim, classic American and European favorites for dishes from luscious seafood and fresh vegetables, to tangy fruits and select sauces. Island restaurants serve tastes from as far off as Vietnam, India and Thailand. Feast on abobo (braised pork or chicken), poi and laulau (taro leaves wrapped around pork or chicken and baked to perfection) and mochi (a sinful rice cake). Island-grown grapes flavor select wines while micro-brewed beers offer ideal complement to your meal.

Book your Hawaii vacation package today to experience all these beautiful islands have to offer.

Shade Gardening Tips From Hawaii

If you’re a first time gardener, or you’ve inherited your garden along with your house, then you’ll probably not have noticed that your garden has a shaded area. Believe me it will have a shaded space somewhere, even if it is in the very corner of the yard. That’s why you’ll need to be doing shade gardening this year. Executed properly, your shade garden can take you through for a long time.

If you find the shade in your garden is due to a tree or trees, even if it is your neighbor’s tree, you’ll find that the soil will be dry and full of roots. Planting may be difficult and you may have to improve the soil slightly before anything will grow. Be careful when doing this as some trees, like Oak, are very particular, and can be extremely sensitive to changes in soil depth. Also, if you have to till the soil around the roots, you’ll again need to be very careful as root breakage may occur and the tree might be damaged in the long term. No one ever said shade gardening was going to be easy!

If you already have a small lake or pond in your garden, or even a little winding stream, your water gardening efforts just became that much easier. Unfortunately, for the vast majority of homeowners, such a bonus is just not on the cards, so you’ll have to build your water garden from scratch.

When choosing your plants, you’ll have to keep in mind the conditions that are likely to be prevalent within your shaded area. Low, dappled sunlight, to perhaps no sun at all, or perhaps sun at only certain times of the day. Limited water in the soil due to an extensive root system, poor air circulation caused by low lying branches, or intrusive walls. These are only some of the conditions you’ll have to deal with when shade gardening.

Having passed through the more serious parts of shade gardening, we can now move on to the more fun parts. Namely designing, and laying out your garden, and buying your plants!

Since plants that thrive in the shade aren’t as vivid and bright as plants that grow in full sunlight, it’s best if you lean more towards flowers with pastel shades, as darker colors will only tend to blend into the background.

Foxgloves are a favorite, as are Daisy’s, and Begonias. Bluebells and Forget-me-nots are also some true blue favorites. If you plan your shade gardening carefully, you can have blooming flowers for almost the whole year.

Other plants to consider are groundcovers. Hostas, are traditionally a good groundcover plant, with its big leaves that tend to hug the ground. English ivy, Wintercreepers, and Ajuga are also very good for groundcover.

No matter what you decide upon, make sure that you enjoy shade gardening, and all the benefits it can bring to you, like the peace of mind and relaxation that you can get from the natural subdued colors offered by the shaded garden.

Hawaii Private Yacht Charters

ne of the often overlooked ways to enjoy a vacation to the Islands of Aloha is to charter a private yacht in Hawaii for an unforgettable cruise.

There are many options for boat rentals in Hawaii, but they are typically old, rusty tubs that are jam packed with tourists. Not exactly the best way to enjoy a vacation in paradise.

Luckily, there is an alternative. There are a number of luxury yachts in Hawaii (especially on the island of Oahu) that can take you for a private cruise far away from the sunburned hordes. Once the exclusive domain of the super rich, luxury boats can now be rented by the hour for a lot less money than you might think.

There is a large range of yachts available for charter ranging from luxury sail boats to vintage motor yachts. A yacht charter broker can help you find the perfect boat to meet your needs, based on the size of your group, your budget and what you would like to do. Some luxury boats book months in advance, so don't wait until you are in Hawaii to book your charter or your boat may alreaddy be booked. Typically, one half of the total charter price is required to reserve a yacht charter.

When you book a private yacht charter, you're the boss. The departure time and itinerary are completely up to you. Plan your own sightseeing charters, Hawaii sunset cruise or even a private Hawaii dinner cruise with a private chef. Most boats have a two hour charter minimum, which is about the right amount of time for most people. If you are a seasoned sailor or want to enjoy a more leisurely dinner cruise, book your boat for a three hour charter. With a little imagination you can create an adventure that will be one of the most memorable highlights of your vacation in Hawaii.

For a real adventure you can book a an inter-island cruise. The tradewinds in Hawaii generally blow from east to west, so this is the preferred direction to travel for the smoothest sailing. As a rule of thumb, it takes about 12 hours to travel between neighboring islands; from Big Island to Maui, Maui to Oahu, and Oahu to Kauai. The Maui to Oahu yacht charter journey is the best, as it is smooth sailing and can travel (upon your specification) down the dramatic north shore of Molokai. This unpopulated shoreline features the tallest sea cliffs in the world, with lush valleys and waterfalls flowing into the sea. A true unspoiled paradise.

Yachts have also become increasingly popular as a location for a destination wedding in Hawaii. Wedding ceremonies and receptions can be held on luxury boats for a unique venue option. A private charter provides an unforgettable alternative to the hotel banquet room routine, and the largest boats can accomodate up to eighty passengers. The shared experience of being together on a unique, private charter is a great way for people to bond with each other away from the tourist crowds, traffic and towering hotels.

Vacations are all about creating lasting memories. For a little extra money and imagination you can experience the beautiful waters of Hawaii away from the crowds and have another great story to tell when you get back home.

Why Hawaii Is A Great Place To Live

Where do you live? If you could change anything about your hometown, what would it be? For many, their answer would be the weather. If you are looking to relocate to a beautiful and sunny place then you are not alone. Millions of Americans wish for more, but many do not know how close that dream actually is to becoming a reality. If you are interested in moving, whether it is because of the weather or not, you may want to examine the Hawaii real estate market.

Move to Hawaii? But, why would you want to do that? That is the question that thousands of Americans ask themselves each year. The truth is that there are literally an unlimited number of reasons why you may want to consider moving to Hawaii. Before you can examine the benefits of moving to Hawaii, you will want to examine what Hawaii has to offer you.

Hawaii is one of the fifty United States. Despite being a part of the United States, it is a collection of islands out in the Pacific Ocean. While Hawaii technically is composed of fifteen different islands, eight of which make up the state, there are four that tend to receive the most attention. Those islands are the Big Island of Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai, and Maui. While they are similar in many ways, they are also different. That is one of the reasons why Hawaii is a great place to live, because you are given a number of different choices.

Oahu is most well-known for being home to Honolulu, one of Hawaii most popular cites. If you are interested in residing in Oahu, you will find that you are not alone. The Oahu real estate market is literally booming. This is because a large number of individuals reside here and each year many more make the decision to move there. In fact, Oahu is often referred to as “The Gathering Place.”

The Kauai real estate market often tends to focus on vacationers looking for summer rentals; however, it also focuses on those looking to become local residents. One of the reasons why Kauai is an amazing place to live is due to its beauty and scenic landscape. Portions of the island are consumed with cannons and waterfalls. Many Kauai real estate properties are considered breathtaking. That is why the area is not only a popular vacation destination, but a great place to live.

The Big Island of Hawaii is, perhaps, one of the most well-known islands. This is due to its size. Big Island is known as the largest of all Hawaiian Islands. In addition to being known for its size, Big Island is also well-known for its scenic volcanoes and tourism. As with other islands, the Big Island real estate market has seen an increase in recent years. Being a large island, Big Island offers a large number of real estate properties. In as an area as popular as Big Island, more real estate properties, to many, often means a better chance of securing a Hawaii home.

While the Big Island, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu real estate markets have all seen increases, it is almost nothing compared the Maui real estate market. It has been noted, on numerous different occasions, that Maui is expanding in more ways than one. Not only has the population expanded, but the economy has as well. Like Kauai, Maui is also considered a popular vacation destination. The steady flow of vacationers has also led to an increase in local residents. As with many other Hawaiian islands, once vacationers get a taste of Maui, many do not want to return home.

As previously mentioned, Big Island, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai are just a few of the Hawaiian Islands; however, they are often considered the most popular. Whether you decide to reside on one of these islands or another, one thing is for sure, you will not regret your decision. With beauty, privacy, tropical weather, and an unlimited number of exciting, year round activities, who wouldn’t enjoy living in Hawaii?

Diamond Head Crater In Hawaii

There will no be a shortage of things to do if you are a tourist on vacation in Hawaii as there are many world class tourist attractions in the island paradise of Hawaii. You can take cruises to go island hopping, helicopter tours to view Hawaii's famous landscapes and volcanoes, go whale watching, try scuba diving or even big game fishing as the list goes on.

However, one of the healthiest vacation activities you can participate in Hawaii is to take a hike up the Diamond Head Crater. Any tourist in Hawaii will tell you that tracking up Diamond Head Crater is an exhilarating and memorable experience.

The Diamond Head Crater is in Waikiki. It is an extinct volcano and is more than 3,500 feet in diameter with a 760 ft high summit. The crater is perhaps the world's most visited volcanic crater. It is the lasting remnant of a volcano explosion that took place some half a million years ago. The Diamond Head Crater attracts thousands of tourists every year. It is one of Hawaii's most recognized and popular tourist attractions.

The ancient Hawaiians called the crater 'Laeahi', and when translated means 'brow of the tuna'. The name 'Diamond Head' was coined some two to three centuries ago when British sailors thought that there were diamonds lodged in the crater. The "diamonds" are actually calcite crystals embedded in the lava rocks.

Diamond Head Crater trekking is considered a moderate climb and if you are reasonably fit and healthy, it will only take you only about an hour to reach the crater's peak and about half of that time to get to the foot on your downhill trek.

The trekking trail climbs the inside slope of Diamond Head Crater for about half a mile and is a trail with the mountain on one side and a railing on the other. After a sightseeing vantage point that doubles as a rest stop, the trail takes a steep upward ascent through a labyrinth of tunnels and staircases. The final climb is a staircase of 99 steps and you should be able to tackle it easily if you are reasonably fit. If not, just take the climb slow and steady.

This staircases will lead you to a World War II pillbox bunker. From here, you can have clear view of the spectacular Oahu island.

Standing at top lookout vantage point, viewing Oahu's entire leeward side, feeling the cool winds blowing and hearing waves crashing on the shore far below, is an experience all nature loving tourists will enjoy. Just don't forget to take some photographs for souvenir though.

Peak hours to trek up the Diamond Head Crater starts from 6 am and end at 6pm. Just be forewarned that it can get pretty crowded during peak hours especially during the vacation holiday seasons.

As a general guide, do get up from bed early in the morning and start your hike before the peak hours start if you want to avoid crowds. Do remember to along your water bottle, slap on some sunscreen to avoid sunburn for the midday heat can get pretty fierce during summer months.

How To Get A Family Package On Hawaii Vacation

Hawaii is a dream spot for any family vacation. Beautiful sandy beaches with playful waves that crash against the shore, vibrant, green forests, hidden waterfalls, and fiery lava flows all await tourists daily.

Most activities that tourists can participate in are not only invigorating and fun but they also connect vacationers with nature. Snorkeling, whale watching, surfing, and swimming with the dolphins, are just some of the recreations your family can enjoy.

But how can you find the right Hawaii family vacation package for you?

First you need to determine what your budget is. Secondly, you will want to plan the activities and tours you and your family are most interested in. Afterward, look for a traveling agency that can help you find the vacation package that suits your needs.

Many travel agencies are especially designed for vacationing families and they sometimes offer a 50% on your second hotel accommodation. Also, daily breakfast buffets and special children’s menus are perks you can benefit from if you book a trip to Hawaii through a travel agent.

There are several relaxing activities for adults, ranging from on-site food, beverages, spa, and massages, to sports like golf and tennis. And all with the backdrop of a tropical island!

Here are some of the must-see tourist spots in Hawaii:

1. The USS Arizona Memorial is a favorite for tourists; however, it is also busy and if families opt to check it out, they are advised to do so in the morning hours so as to secure a space on the ferry ride.

2. Dole Pineapple Plantation is another popular attraction. You and your family can take a narrated train ride through the pineapple fields. The plantation is considered one of the world’s largest mazes. This is a very edifying experience, as it shows how crops are traditionally grown on the island.

3. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is Hawaii’s most famous place to snorkel. It is essentially a sunken volcanic crater and a former playground of Hawaiian royalties! The rainbow of reefs and colorful schools of fish and other sea life will amuse your family for hours and hours.

4. For a stroll along the beach, during the day or night, Waikiki is a famous two-mile stretch of land.

5. The Diamond Head Crater is a distinctive natural landmark and is a steep, but short, trail that leads hikers to the crater summit, which has a spectacular 360-degree view of Honolulu and the coast. The US army built the amazing trail in 1906.

6. The Polynesian Cultural Center celebrates the people and culture of the Polynesian islands, which include Hawaii, Tonga, Tahiti, Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, and the Marquesas Islands. It merges entertainment and education, as visitors are treated to the music, dance, food, clothing, shelter, arts and crafts, and beliefs of the Polynesian people.

7. Shop and dine at the Ala Moana Center. It has over 240 stores, some indoors and other outdoors.

Good luck and enjoy your Hawaiian getaway!

Planning A Kauai Hawaii Wedding

Planning a Kauai wedding, especially if you do not live in the area will take a lot of patience and time. However, with the following tips it can certainly be done and done well.

Kauai Wedding Tip #1 Mail
Make a detailed list before you begin packing that outlines every possible thing you might need or want for your vacation and your wedding. Don't forget anything that cannot be purchased on Kauai or in an airport because although it is said there is overnight mail, there really is not, so don't forget your wedding dress, rings, or anything of that nature because it will take at least two days to get to you. However, if you make a detailed list then packing will be easy and you will remember everything. Having everything with you will make your wedding go much smoother and reduce your stress level and you won't have to worry about the mail.

Kauai Wedding Tip #2 Pre-Trip Fitting
Before you hop on the plane with all of your wedding wares, make sure you stop one last time at the bridal shop for a very last fitting. You want to make sure your dress is perfect, and fits perfect as well, so stopping by and having any last alterations done just before you travel to the beautiful island of Kauai will reduce the risk of the dress being too big, too small, too long, or any other number of problems that could potentially arise. Knowing your dress is perfect will make you anticipate the wedding with even more excitement as well.

Kauai Wedding Tip #3 Accessories
Remember the tips about not forgetting anything and having an additional fitting? Well, while you are on the remembering kick and at the fitting appointment you should pick up some additional pairs of stockings, garter belts, any extras that you might possibly need. The truth of the matter is that stockings frequently rip when the nervous bride is trying to put them on, so having an extra pair in the right size and color is a great option and will save any additional stress. Additional pairs of everything is not realistic, but those little things that have a high potential of breaking, ripping, or causing a last minute stress situation should be considered and planned for.

Kauai Wedding Tip #4 The Details
When booking a wedding location in Kauai make sure you ask more questions than if the location is available and how much it charges. The reason for this is you could arrive and plan on your entire wedding being pink themed and the location is a bright red. Nobody wants their wedding location to clash with their colors, so ask about the details of every location you inquire about. Then, when making your decisions you will be informed and know what to expect. Also, consider ministers, size of the location, and the like. You will be glad you paid attention to the details.

Kauai Wedding Tip #5 Tuxedos
The groom and his attendants should all rent their tuxedos in their hometown where they can be fitted and order the desired tuxedos in the right sizes with the right accessories. By taking care of this the groom and his attendants can arrive in Kauai and enjoy the pre-wedding activities knowing their tuxedo fits, has all the accessories, and is waiting for the wedding day.

Kauai Wedding Tip #6 Jet Lag
Many individuals do not allow enough time between their arrival and the actual wedding day and end up jet lagged, exhausted, and completely unable to enjoy the beauty of the island, it's many offerings, not to mention the wedding day. Weddings are stressful and busy events and jet lag only increases these elements. So, plan your arrival several days before the wedding so you can settle in, enjoy the island, handle any last minute details and rest up before the big day.

Kauai Wedding Tip #7 Relax!
The island is absolutely beautiful and a very relaxing place to be. Since the wedding day is so busy and stressful it is important for the bride and groom to slip away the day before the wedding for several hours to simply relax and enjoy being in such a fabulous location to exchange vows. The bride and groom can relax, take pleasure in the island, and really benefit from some relaxation before the big day!

Kauai Wedding Tip #8 Talk to the Minister
Before the wedding day the bride and groom should meet with the minister to make sure the minister's vows are appropriate for the wedding and convey the sentiments the bride and groom wish to convey on their wedding day. Additionally, if the bride and groom have written their own vows this is a good time to make the minister aware and go over any last details. Also, meeting the minister before the wedding will make everyone more comfortable and the ceremony more sincere.

Kauai Wedding Tip #9 Date
Remember before planning your wedding date and mailing invitations with that particular date for your Kauai wedding to have the minister, location, hotels and everything booked so you know 100% that your wedding has all the elements necessary and all are available. During the summer months, which are popular wedding months, hotels and event locations are booked up solid, so if you don't plan ahead by many months you may find yourself with a wedding planned for a specific date, but no chapel, hotel room, or anything else to accommodate the wedding or guests.

Kauai Wedding Tip #10 Packing
After you make the list of things to pack, revise the list again, and again. This way you will remember anything that might have been forgotten and will give you time to buy any of the necessities and pack them. Also, when packing, check the items off your list so you know you have them and they have been packed. This will eliminate confusion as well as the event where you unpack everything to see if you did indeed remember to pack your garter belt or not. Make a list and check it off.

There are many Kauai wedding tips, but these are just a few that will help you plan your Kauai wedding and thoroughly enjoying becoming man and wife in one of the world's most beautiful locations.
