Hawaiian Flowers

The flowers found in the Hawaiian Islands include a wide range of orchids, anthurium, and protea. Some of these flowers have become beautiful representatives of the islands. Some have been extensively used in leis. Other stunning flowers have been known throughout the globe because of their bright colors and exotic shapes, reminiscent of the mystique of the islands.

Most of the plants native to Hawaii are relatively mundane in appearance, with little of the flair associated with Hawaiian flowers. The tropical climate and rich fertile volcanic soil provides an ideal growing location for a wide range of plants.

The globally exclaimed native orchids to Hawaii, the jewel orchid, the twayblade, and the fringed orchid, are some of the flowers which are used at numerous occasions. All three of these orchid varieties, named anoectochilus, liparis, and platanthera, are sticky-leaved, dull colored flowers, and are comparatively unimpressive to look at. A number of hibiscus varieties are also found in Hawaii, and they are flowers with variety of colors including white, yellow, pink and red. These flowers are also found in a number of exotic shades and shapes. The varieties of hibiscus flowers are colloquially known as koki'o ke'oke'o, ma'o hau hele, and koli'o.

The most popular import to Hawaii is undoubtedly the bird of paradise flower, also known as a crane lily or strelitzia reginae. The tender yellow-orange petals with shimmering blue and green make for one of the most striking visual images in the botanical world. Commonly, a bouquet or lei is created using a dendrobium orchid, a small orchid with pure white blossoms that is ideal for complimenting more colorful blooms. Dendrobiums are found in almost all colors, ranging from blood-orange hued dendrobium unicum to the tender pink of dendrobium aphyllum.

More Than Sun and Surf - A Hawaii Vacation Is Paradise For Golfers

Hawaii is home to the hula, luaus, active volcanoes, awesome surfing, and the best Mai Tais west of Trader Vic’s.

And with over 80 courses on five islands, golf that is arguably the best on the planet.

Anyone who has ever played a round or two in the Islands, amateur to pro, will gladly tell you that a Hawaii vacation is A-Number One for the sheer number, beauty, and accessibility of golf courses in one geographical location. Whether you’re a hard-core golf addict or weekend duffer, if you have a spark of interest in this lovely, maddening game Samuel Johnson dubbed “a good walk ruin’d,” you’ll get on the horn and find a Hawaii vacation package in paradise.

The one that I have booked this fall is a Hawaii golf vacation package that includes six days of unlimited golf for two – and a choice of four beautiful resorts on three islands – Oahu’s Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, the Maui Prince Hotel, and, on Hawaii’s Big Island, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and Mauna Kea Beach Resort.

The golf courses are magnificent; among the very best in Hawaii. By island: The Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, on Oahu, is the only hotel in Waikiki with its own golf course. This 27-hole, 270-acre beauty was designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, and is situated on the sunny Ewa plain just 40 minutes west of the hotel (shuttle service is provided for hotel guests).

At the Maui Prince Hotel, you’ll find two championship courses available to guests – the Makena North and South Courses. The Makena North Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., feels more like a nature walk than a golf course, with views of Haleakala and the Pacific Ocean. The Makena South Course provides the serenity and tranquility many golfers look for, with breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains.

The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, on Hawaii’s Big Island, is home to Hapuna Golf Course, named by the U.S. Golf Association as “The Course of the Future.” The links-style, 18-hole championship course, also designed by Arnold Palmer & Ed Seay, is nestled within the natural contours of the land, from the shoreline to about 700 feet above sea level. It features spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, with the dramatic Mauna Kea Volcano providing a backdrop.

Finally, the incomparable Mauna Kea Golf Course, also on the Big Island and consistently named among the finest courses in the world, offers golfers the perfect challenge to match their level of play. Created by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., this 18-hole championship beauty features large, undulating greens, 120 well-placed bunkers, and incredible panoramic sweeps of sea and land.

All of these packages include round-trip airfare; a fresh flower lei greeting upon arrival; airport/hotel transfers on Oahu, a daily Dollar Rent A Car on Maui and Hawaii’s Big Island, hotel accommodations and unlimited golf for two with shared cart at all four resorts.

Now, I won’t tell you which island – or which hotel – I’ve chosen (I wouldn’t want to influence your decision too much), but I will let you know that the travel dates for these Hawaii vacation packages range from now through December 16, 2007, giving you plenty of time to plan a fantastic Hawaii golf getaway.

Snorkel & Dive The Pristine Waters Of Hawaii

If you are looking for a great snorkeling adventure, Hawaii is one of the premier places to visit. The Crystal waters of blue-green and emeralds is what makes the Hawaiian Islands so popular to vacationers. These waters stretch for miles and miles, completely surrounding the islands and the prime spot for snorkeling. If the photographs of Hawaii and its waters entice you, wait until you actually visit, you will be amazed, which is why so many people return to Hawaii over and over again for their vacation destination.

If you look to the Hawaiian island chain, you will find the best snorkeling spots anywhere. The island chain is made up of six main islands, the big island of Hawaii, Molokai, Maui, Oahu, Lanai and Kauai. These islands have the most spectacular and diverse underwater adventures that you can experience. This makes Hawaii perhaps the best location for avid divers and lots of easy stuff for first timers as well.

Another reason Hawaii is the top spot for snorkeling adventures is the preservation of habitat that the government has protected. These habitats are natural and can be found within the seas and on the beach. The government protects its endangered species and has strict measures in place to ensure the process continues. Of all the animal life you are bound to see on your visit to Hawaii, the best may be awaiting for you in the depths of the sea.

Hawaii is home to the most vivid and beautiful colored fish in the tropics. The seas also houses dolphins, angel fish, and the Hawaiian Sea Turtle. The coral within the surrounding waters of Hawaii is some of the rarest coral species in the world. It is for this reason that divers from all over the world visit Hawaii regularly for their snorkeling adventures.

The Hanauma Bay of Oahu

Many of the reefs that are located around Oahu and especially the Hanauma Bay are filled with elaborate coral formations. You can be sure to always find schools of dolphins off the coast of Wainae. You can also find such places with beautiful reefs and schools of fish located on the North Shore at the sleepy town of Haleiwa.

Oahu is perhaps one of the most unique places to explore for a snorkeling experience. A big reason for that is Hanauma Bay. It is world famous for its protected marine sanctuary with more than 450 varieties of ocean life species, making this a fragile and breathtaking Hawaiian snorkeling experience.

If you are looking for vegetation and sandy beaches Kauai, the Garden Island, is the best place to go. The coral reefs and lagoons of Kauai are some of the most popular diving spots in the area. Kauai is home to native fish that cannot be found anywhere else within the seas. In fact, because these are rare and native fish, this is probably the area with the highest protection in Hawaii, which is why snorkeling fanatics frequent this place for their dives.

Kauai is also known for its vast labyrinths of pathways that intertwine the reefs together for a unique snorkeling experience. The sea caves and waterfalls are true natural water wonders that no one will want to miss out on. Even the most expert snorklers will be amazed by the beauty of this unique environment. Hawaii is definitely the best place to explore sea life and will be one of the best snorkel adventures that you will ever have.

Free and Cheap Lodging in Hawaii?

A Hawaii vacation doesn't have to be expensive. If you're willing to pitch a tent, you can have a lot of fun camping free on the island of Oahu and some areas on the Big Island and Maui. What better way to experience Hawaii first-hand than by waking up to and going to sleep to the sound of the ocean or mountains?

The State of Hawaii maintains campsites on all islands. The Big Island has camping and cabin sites around the island. Camping in Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island is free with a paid entry fee to the park. Reservations are required for the cabin sites in the National Park. Kauai has several beach and mountain camping sites as well as the popular Kokee Lodge Cabins. Molokai has two state campsites, Lanai has six semi-rural campsites on the beach, and Maui has mountain and ocean campgrounds and cabins. Camping in Haleakala National Park on Maui is free with permit. Oahu has the most campsites of all the islands. Kualoa Beach Park on Oahu is popular for its hot showers, barbecue pits, and well-taken care of camping areas.

Camping permits are required for most campgrounds and camping fees range from free to less than $10 per night. Cabin rentals can start at less than $50 per night.

If sleeping on the ground doesn't interest you, but you might not mind sharing a bathroom and don't need the frills of a hotel, check out a hostel. Hostel prices start at under $20 per night, even in Waikiki. Depending on the hostel, you can find a private room, private studio, or a cabin for several people.

Whether you choose a free campsite or a cabin by the sea, you can't go wrong since you'll be in Hawaii! Happy Camping!

Discover Top 7 Important Tips For a Vacation in Hawaii

Have you ever dreamed of vacationing on a lush, tropical isle? Imagine white sandy beaches, the frangipani scented breeze blowing through your hair. It doesn't have to be a dream. Here are the best 7 tips for a vacation in Hawaii:

1. Research the various islands that make up Hawaii. Choose the island that seems compatible with your interests such as well populated places or areas that are more secluded.

2. Make hotel reservations at least 60-90 days in advance. This will prevent problems later on and ensure you have a pleasant vacation in Hawaii.

3. Make airline reservations 2-3 months in advance to ensure you get your preferred seats (aisle or window) and possibly a good discount on air fare.

4. Research the activities available after you have chosen your vacation spot. This will help to give you an idea of places to see and things to do whether you like laying out in the sun, boogie boarding, or surfing.

5. Pack lots of light clothing such as shorts, t-shirts, skirts, and even that Hawaiian shirt you bought several years ago that you stuffed in the back of your closet. Also, don't forget to bring your bathing suit, towels, sandals, sun tan lotion, bug spray, camera, camcorders and anything else to make your vacation a blast!

6. Bring your appetite with you! Definitely plan on attending at least one Luau. This is an experience you will never forget as you taste exotic dishes such as whole roasted pig, Poi, and seafood served fresh from the sea. The delicious food alone is enough to make you want to vacation in Hawaii.

7. Relax and take it easy. Remember, you are on vacation so this is the time to turn off your blackberry and leave the work at home. Your family will thank you for it and you will have more time to stop and smell the leis and enjoy cocktails on the beach.

If these 7 tips don't convince you to vacation in Hawaii then you are already overworked and need to take a time out! The Hawaiian Islands are calling to you. Can you say aloha?

Hawaiian Flower Tattoos, Exotic Flowers, Yet Simple

Hawaiian flower tattoos are becoming very popular. Hawaii is one of those places people dream about going to or living. If you've been there, you want to go back. The climate is perfect nearly all the time. The people are beautiful and friendly. It seems natural to want to express that feeling with a tattoo.

The state flower of Hawaii is the hibiscus. Hibiscus come in a wide variety of colors and sizes. If a woman wears a hibiscus behind her ear, she is either saying she is taken or is looking, depending on the ear. Hibiscus petals are only open for a short time during the day. A Hawaiian flower tattoo with hibiscus could symbolize the shortness of life.

If you've ever visited Hawaii you have been presented with a lei. Leis are generally made from plumeria. They bloom all year and they have a very sweet scent and a variety of colors. Plumeria can be used as an accent to a tattoo with hibiscus or on its own to signify warmth and welcome.

Hawaiian flower tattoos can be very simple or combined with other elements to make an intricate design. Someone who has visited the island may want a simple reminder of its beauty and get a Hawaiian flower tattoo. On men you might see hibiscus flowers surrounding some tribal art. Hawaii is one of the Polynesian islands and tribal tattooing has a deep history.

Combining different symbols of the island can make a unique tattoo design. You can combine the plumeria or hibiscus with dolphins, water or waves, surfboards or even beautiful women. Plumeria and hibiscus are not the only flowers that can be used in Hawaiian flower tattoos. Hawaii is full of gorgeous flowers such as the lily, orchid and rose. All of these can be used to make a beautiful tattoo.

Because these flowers are so simple, you want to take your time and figure out how your tattoo is going to be unique. You don't want to just go into a tattoo parlor and say you want a Hawaiian flower tattoo. You will be left with a generic tattoo that you may regret.

Choosing a tattoo can be a hard decision that takes time. It will be with you for life so you want it to be unique and imaginative. Find beautiful Hawaiian flower tattoos that speak to you. Don't waste your time looking at website after website for free tattoos. Spend your time looking through thousands of the best tattoo designs all in one place.

Hawaii's Most Popular Beaches

Waikiki is at the top of Hawaii’s most popular beaches list. Waikiki is located on the island of Oahu. It is a two mile long beach that is known for its white sandy beaches, its amazing sunsets and its proximity to Diamond Head. This is usually a very crowded beach, but there is still plenty of room to bask in the sun or to play in the surf. If you go into the water make sure that you keep your eyes open for hazards like surf boards, sharks and waves.

The number two spot on Hawaii’s most popular beaches goes to Lanikai Beach. This beach is located on the island of Oahu. Lanikai means “heavenly sea” and this really lives up to its name. It is known by locals as one of the best swimming beaches in the state. This beach has a beautiful one mile stretch of sugary white sand and turquoise blue waters.

The number three spot on Hawaii’s most popular beaches goes to Hanalei Bay Beach. This beach is located on the North Shore of the island of Kauai. It has one of the most romantic and beautiful beachscapes in the state. Some of the sites that you can see from this beach include amazing waterfalls, deep emerald mountainsides, white sand and azure blue water. This is a great beach if you are interested in surfing, painting, boating, snorkeling or swimming.

The fourth spot on Hawaii’s Most Popular Beaches list goes to Kaanapali. The Black Rock Beach is located in West Maui. This beach is perfect for people looking for water adventures. Here you will find the perfect conditions for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, jet skiing and scuba diving. This beach is also located near tourist attractions, shopping opportunities and great restaurants that serve international and local cuisine.

A Look at Hawaiian T-Shirts

Hawaiian T-shirts can be found in a wide variety of colors and styles. The popular design can be found in everything from $2 cotton to $100 silk. Some of the more expensive Hawaiian shirts, also considered to be the highest quality, are border Hawaiian shirts.

Border Hawaiian shirts are a luxury because so much fabric is wasted in making them. This well thought-out type of Hawaiian shirt has sleeves, sides, and hems that are identical. Pockets will usually match the shirt pattern perfectly. Some of the better border Hawaiian shirts have designs that never repeat themselves. Another unique trait of the border shirt is its length - they are generally much longer than other Hawaiian shirts in order to show off the fabric's images. Because of the purpose of their length, border Hawaiian shirts are never meant to be tucked in.

Another ""high quality mark"" of a Hawaiian T-shirt is the ""Made in Hawaii"" label. Even if a shirt is not a border shirt, the ""Made in Hawaii"" label ensures its authenticity and separates it from other cheap imitations. The label became a staple for shirts made on the island in the 1950s, when a trade commissioner from Los Angeles realized that identifying locally made Hawaiian shirts could increase their value.

Although the ""best"" Hawaiian T-shirts are considered to come from Hawaii, quality shirts with the Hawaiian design can be found in all types of stores and markets across the world.

There Are Many Hawaii News Channels Available On Most Of The Islands

Whether you actually live in the area or are just visiting, you will find that most Hawaii news channels are either affiliates of the major networks, or broadcast by local cable access cable companies. If you are staying in a hotel, the choices for viewing will vary from island to island. As well, it will vary depending on if your hotel subscribes to satellite or cable. Both services are available on all islands. If you live in the area, then most choices that are available on the mainland are available in Hawaii. National news, including all of the major networks, and cable channels like CNN and the Weather channel are also available. Your hotel room should have a channel guide near the television set.

Hawaii news channels are important to watch everyday if you are on vacation. Since most of the activities are outdoors, it important to look at the local forecast to see if it predicts that there will be inclement weather. Check any policies from tour operators before you make payment for their services. They all have different restrictions on rain checks and refunds. Some tour groups and outdoor performances will go on as scheduled and require that you show up in person to get a rain check. Others will deliver their service regardless of weather with no refunds. For example, a Kayaking company may say, "We go rain or shine. You'll get wet any way, so there are no refunds." Other vendors may allow a cancellation 24 hours ahead of time if there is a particularly severe storm coming in.

Hawaii news channels can also help you get more acquainted with the area. They all have local segments that highlight festivals and events that you might not be aware of. As well, they report any traffic hold ups, closed roads, closed beaches, rip tides, and airport delays. If the worst should happen; they also report on hurricanes and typhoons and even have lava advisories. In case of emergency evacuation, they also report on what precautionary steps you should take. Hawaii news channels will tell you what areas will be hit hardest, who needs to evacuate and where they need to go.

Hawaii news channels also include cable access news and a variety of other programs that discuss issues that pertain to Hawaii. If you are interested in the local culture or politics, these shows will give you a local on perspective of what living on the islands is like.

What To Know About Lodging, Hotels, and Rentals Homes In Hawaii

When planning a trip or stay in Hawaii one of the first things to consider is lodging. While most people would start looking at hotels, one should consider looking into rental properties. Rental properties are homes, condos, villas or land available for rent for a period of time. Most can be rented for days or even weeks at a time.

Once deciding you would like to stay in a rental property, you need to choose which type you would like to stay in. Deciding factors would include number of people traveling; amenities needed, and amount of privacy you would like. If you are traveling with family you might want to consider renting a home, but if you are traveling as a couple you might consider getting a condo. If you are traveling with a large group of people that would like separate places but would like to stay in the same facility or on the same property you should consider looking into villas or attached condos. There are rental properties available to fit everyone's needs.

Once you decide what type of rental property you would like to stay in, you should then deicide which island you would like to stay on. Hawaii is made up of eight major islands including Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and Hawaii which is referred to as the big island. Who you are traveling with, and what activities you are planning on doing, should be considered while choosing which island to stay on. Each island has unique qualities and activities to do.

Another factor to considering when getting a rental property is deciding what month you would like to go in. The most popular times to go to Hawaii are mid-December to mid-April; during these times you will find prices to be a little higher due to large volumes of vacationers. The best weather in Hawaii can be found in April, May, September and October. Hurricane season is from June to November in Hawaii. These should be some factors in deciding when to plan your trip.

Once you have decided on what type of rental property you would like to stay in and what island you would like to stay on, and what month you are going, you then need to find your perfect rental property. Instead of going to your local travel agent, there are many sites available on the internet to book your perfect rental property.

Hawaii Travel Specials: How To Find Them And What To Look For

Are you interested in taking a trip to Hawaii? If you are, you may be concerned with the cost. Nowadays, it can be costly to travel to just about anywhere. With that said, you shouldn’t let the cost deter you. There are a number of ways that you can save money on your next Hawaii vacation. One of the easiest ways is to look for Hawaii travel specials.

As nice as it is to hear that you can save money on your next vacation by looking for Hawaii travel specials, you may be looking for more information. Many wonder if Hawaii travel deals can really save them money. Many also wonder how to find them and if they are really worth the time to find.

The easiest way to search for Hawaii travel specials is to use the internet. Within a few minutes online, you can find amazing deals and discounts on your overnight accommodations, airline reservations, car rentals, and so much more. As for how you can find these travel deals and discounts online, you can visit online travel websites, perform a standard internet search, or go directly to the source. Going directly to the source often involves visiting the online websites of Hawaii vacation resorts or Hawaii airlines.

Hawaii travel guides are another great way that you can go about finding information on moneysaving deals and discounts. Many travel guides not only outline popular attractions and fun activities, but they also allow businesses to advertise in them as well. You may find advertisements that highlight special deals, discounts, or packages on your airline reservations, a car rental, or a Hawaii vacation rental.

Now that you know how you can go about finding Hawaii travel specials, you may be curious as to what it is that you should look for. For starters, look for low prices. Even without any research, you should have an idea as to how much you would like to spend on a Hawaii vacation resort or your airline tickets. Keep your expectations in mind and aim for prices below that. For example, if you anticipated to pay $500 a night for a private Hawaii vacation rental, look for a lower price.

In addition to low prices, also look for discounted prices, also commonly referred to as slashed prices. These are often easy to spot. When a company, such as a Hawaii hotel or a car rental company discounts their prices, they often show you the discount that you are receiving. For example, a car rental that is offered at a discounted price may be shown with an original price of $25 a day with a slash through that price and a new price of $20 a day. Searching for Hawaii travel specials that offer discounted prices is nice, as you automatically know how much money you can save.

Another way to save money on your next trip to Hawaii is to look for vacation packages. Vacation packages are nice as they not only have the potential to save you money, but they also have the potential to save you time. This is because you are able to make multiple reservations all at the same time. Since you are making multiple travel arrangements all at once, vacation package prices can seem quite high. You can easily check though to see if you are saving money. Look up the cost of each of your travel arrangements, such as your overnight accommodations, car rental, and airline reservations independently and compare the two.

Although the best Hawaii travel specials to find are those that provide you with low prices, discounted prices, or vacation packages, just remember that your goal is to save money. You can do this a number of different ways. If you are presented with an option to save money, take it. This may involve using a coupon at a restaurant or a coupon for one free surfing lesson with a paid session.

As stated above, one of the best ways to find Hawaii travel specials is to use the internet to your advantage. To get you started, visit HawaiianBeachRentals.com. They are a trusted travel website that specializes in Hawaii trips.
